Changelog

Public Beta

Recent updates and improvements to Fluent Thai. We ship as work lands — cadence varies by month.

Update

Late August 2026

  • Syllables now underpin the whole site — every Thai word breaks into its syllables, each carrying its own tone, and the sounds Thai leaves out of the spelling — implied vowels you say but never see — filled in faded, so what is written and what is said line up. It is in Memory Builder, Pronunciation Loops, Blur Breaker, Sound + Picture Sandbox, Tone Explorer and Sentence Explorer.
  • Tones are shown only where we have verified them — where we are not sure, we say nothing rather than guess
  • Memory Builder now teaches, not just tests — a reading ladder that builds a word up one idea at a time, short lesson cards before a new word, and a syllable view on every sentence
  • One designed first week for every new learner — your first sessions follow a single authored sequence instead of being assembled block by block
  • Progress reflects evidence, not attendance — skill ratings and Your Thai Map now show what you actually practised and scored, and the plan page explains itself in plain terms instead of internal block names
  • Tone practice eases off instead of spiralling — a run of wrong answers no longer buries you in more of the same drill
  • The full 57-lesson curriculum is complete, and the lessons are linked from the drills where they are relevant
  • Sound + Picture Sandbox reworked for phones — cards first, a quiz that covers the whole vocabulary, and a results screen that fits
  • More corrections to word meanings, consonant names, tones, and audio across the corpus

Update

Early August 2026

  • Sentences carry forward between sessions — a sentence you are building now comes back in later sessions until you can say it, and Memory Builder tells you when you can
  • Tone Pairs reworked — the tone chart is taught inline, the contour animates in time with the audio, and it teaches at the moment you get one wrong rather than at the end
  • Tone Ladder now teaches the rules, not just the ear — live and dead syllables, and what a consonant class actually does, with its rule cards syncing across your devices
  • Blur Breaker names the word you split wrongly rather than quoting a rule, and reports every boundary you missed instead of only the first
  • Vowel Trainer drills where the vowel sits, not only how it sounds; Consonant Trainer targets the letters you keep missing
  • Tone Pairs and Listen & Read now pull from your recent mistakes
  • Faster dashboard — about a megabyte of unused code removed from Today’s Plan

Update

July 2026

  • Sentence Explorer released — paste any Thai sentence and see it split into words with reviewed meanings. Where we are not sure, it says so rather than guessing.
  • Word-level audio and tone help in Sentence Explorer — tap a word to hear it and see its tone
  • The two-minute taster now hands you straight into a daily plan
  • Input Ladder fixes — the answer’s position no longer gives it away, and fill-in-the-blank mistakes are answerable when they come back for review
  • Mobile fixes across the site — less sideways overflow, and more consistent Thai text handling
  • Sync, dashboard refresh, and pair-code privacy hardening

Update

June 2026

  • Save and restore your progress — after your second session we offer to save your progress to an email, the welcome screen carries a “Used Fluent Thai before?” restore link, and signing in confirms which account you landed on. Phone browsers can clear site data after about a week away, which used to strand people on the welcome screen with no way back.
  • A quiet month otherwise — one focused piece of work

Update

Late May 2026

  • A quieter fortnight on the surface — most of the work went into how we check content before it reaches you
  • Every sentence in the practice decks now goes through a review queue that checks its meaning, its tone breakdown, and whether its audio actually exists — the groundwork for the sentence-based practice that arrived over the summer
  • Groundwork for Sentence Explorer, which launched in July

Update

Early May 2026

  • “You can say this now” payoff in Memory Builder — when a word graduates, you see exactly which sentences you can now read or say, with the pieces you already know highlighted
  • New beginner-friendly start to Memory Builder — first-time learners now ramp in with a curated starter pack and clearer instructions before the full deck opens up
  • Tone Pairs Listen redesigned — Part A plays words sharing the same tone shape, Part B contrasts them, with a built-in tone-shapes chart you can reveal whenever you want
  • New modes for Vowel Length and Consonant Class — meet the sounds and letters first, then practice them
  • More accurate tone analysis across the site — many corrections to compound words, loanwords, and silent letters
  • More user-submitted bugs fixed — thank you for the bug reports! Keep sending anything that looks wrong, even if you’re not sure.

Update

Late April 2026

  • Account & Sync (beta) soft-launched — optionally sign in with email to sync progress, plan, and review errors across devices. No signup required to keep using Fluent Thai anonymously.
  • Coach notes are smarter — they no longer count errors from apps that aren’t practice-ready yet, so you won’t see misleading "errors building up" messages for places you can’t actually drill
  • Review Mistakes now shows the Thai sentence for graded-reader comprehension reviews (previously the prompt was English-only)
  • Fourteen user-submitted bugs fixed — thank you for the bug reports! Keep sending anything that looks wrong, even if you’re not sure.

Update

Early April 2026

  • Nine user-submitted bugs fixed — thank you for the bug reports! Keep sending anything that looks wrong, even if you’re not sure.
  • Hear Every Word and Watch & Learn released (V1) — new ways to train your ear on real Thai from videos and podcasts
  • Faster start for new learners — placement flow is quicker and smoother
  • Dashboard and image loading improvements across the site
