Thai vowel signs can sit around a consonant. Build the spoken syllable from its jobs: initial, vowel, tone, then final.
1 · Initial
ข
ข ไข่ begins the syllable.
2 · Vowel
◌า
The long vowel is pronounced after the initial.
3 · Final
ว
ว is the final w sound.
4 · Tone mark
◌้
ไม้โท; with this initial it gives the syllable its falling tone.
5 · Read
ข้าว
Say the whole syllable with a Falling tone.
