Thai polite endings depend on the speaker: use ครับ if you’re male, ค่ะ (or คะ in a question) if you’re female. We show both.

The same topic can use different vocabulary

เสวย

royal vocabulary: eat

รับประทานอาหาร

formal: eat / have a meal

ทานข้าว

polite / softer everyday: eat / have a meal

กินข้าว

ordinary everyday: eat / have a meal

The normal verb, not an impolite one. ทาน is simply softer.

แดก

vulgar/slang: eat

Register belongs to a relationship and setting

Do not upgrade a sentence by mechanically replacing one word. Pronouns, particles, titles, and the situation work together.

Worked payoff — choose the safe middle

ทานข้าวไหมครับ / คะ

Would you like to eat?

For an unfamiliar adult in an ordinary service setting, polite everyday Thai is safer than royal, stiff formal, or slang speech.
